November 4th 2017, Oceania Post Earthquake Contribution Concert (Beppu, Japan)
Generosity in action. On November 4th 2017, we organized an event to showcase some of the dances of Oceania to entertain the local people of Beppu city (Oita Prefecture) who was badly affected by the recent Oita Kumamoto Earthquake. The fund raised was donated to the rebuilding of the Beppu Furocho Church.
The Oceania Student Association (OSA) currently have about 50 students from more than 10 Pacific Islands mostly studying Undergraduate programs at Ritsumeikan Asia Pacific University (APU). This post does not cover many other volunteer events OSA is running throughout the year.
Dr. Funaki was one of the first graduates from this university in 2004. After the same university hired Dr. Funaki as a university staff in 2005, his first personal mission was to increase the number of Pacific students on campus as a contribution to the Pacific. After securing a constant flow of Oceania students yearly and establishing the Oceania Student Association (OSA), Dr. Funaki finally convinced that he was ready to move on to the next mission.
The idea of the Dignified Pacific Initiative is to start from Oceania and to see whether the model could be adopted at other developing countries with similar backgrounds.
